Chime Cellars prides itself on finding the ideal combination between dedicated grape growers, experienced cultivars and artisan winemakers in order to deliver the best possible wine that nature will allow, with minimal intervention.
Chime’s California Pinot Noir is a collaboration between Sommelier Phil Laramore and consulting winemaker Ricardo de los Reyes. Laramore is a founding member of the distribution company Nexus Wines, and has spent more than 15 years working in the retail and wholesale wine businesses. Reyes is best known for his work as founder and winemaker for Row 11 Winery in San Rafael.
The grapes used in the Chime Pinot Noir California blend are sourced from the coastal ranges of the Santa Barbara, Sonoma, and Monterey AVAs. Consulting winemaker Ricardo de los Reyes personally selects the growers for each of the vintages. Firm believers in the principal that Pinot Noir should always be vinified as a reflection of its terroir, Laramore and Reyes use only 100% Pinot Noir for all of their Chime wines in order to protect the delicate and expressive nature of the varietal. The grapes sourced are a blend of Dijon, Pommard, and Martini Pinot Noir clones.
Winemaker Ricardo de los Reyes oversees the entire vinification process along with sommelier Phil Laramore. Following harvest, the wine is aged for six months in neutral barrels in order to respect the delicate fruit balance without adding any notes of toast. The wine is finished and bottled at the Rack and Riddle Winery in Hopland. The resulting wines are fruit driven, with fresh notes of raspberry, cranberry, and spice on the nose.
